RAM

Hey guys!

I currently have Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 8GB, and I was wondering if the Corsair ones are better. Would I feel any performance increase at all? RAM ain't that expensive now a days. Especially not the DDR3.

I would say that you would not see any real world noticeable increase in performance.

In benchmarks and winsat mem they would show nice scores but that's about it.


I would stick with what you have already.

If you want a big noticeable change in performance then if you haven't got one already get a nice sata 3 SSD.

Here's the scoop on RAM timings:

Take the latency ((CAS) and multiply it by 1000) / (RAM speed /2)

This will give you the response time in nanoseconds.

So for example, a certain DDR3-1866 module of Kingston HyperX memory has a CAS latency of 11 while G.Skill makes a DDR3-1600 module with a latency of just 6. The result?

G.Skill’s slower RAM can respond in just 7.5ns where it takes the much faster HyperX RAM 11.7ns. This means that the G.Skill memory will be faster when it comes to random access; however, the higher clock speed of the HyperX memory still nets it more bandwidth, making it better suited for bulk operations.

Right now I'm looking at a Force GT SATA 3 6GB/s 60GB drive. Looks sweet as the prices of HDD's are increased because of the floods in Thailand.
