LCD Widescreen Issue

Hi, this is a strange one.

My compter and monitor is left on most of the day, and iv noticed on a cold boot of the monitor, on the bottom left while windows is booting up and the background is black, I can see a small white fainty patch, but this dissappears after 5 minutes once the LCD warms up. I have a feeling that the reason for this is due to the vista/win7 ORB. e.g.
As you can see from the picture, the bottom half of the ORB is slightly lighter colour and I have a feeling that as this is always in the same position the white faintly patches show due to this as its stuck there? (kinda hard to explain as you can see from my bad explanation given )

Is there a formal name for this issue? Is this a common issue on LCD's? Can anyone recommend anything to fix this?

If a static image is displayed long enough, it can influence the screen long after it changes, even permanently. But I suspect that's not the case as you said the apparition appears in the bottom left where that particular logo you posted is lightest on the bottom right.

More likely your monitor has backlight bleed, common with nearly all but very expensive LCDs. There isn't anything you can do about it except exchange the monitor for another one, which may have the same or worse bleed in the same or a different spot.

It's usually most predominant along the bottom edge though sometimes visible at the top. If your monitor has a "dynamic contrast" range, it will adjust it's brightness depending on what's on the screen, which can hide the backlight bleed at times. That isn't a solution, but may explain why you see it disappearing after a short time. You will be able to see the backlight bleed clearly if you disable your monitor's dynamic contrast, provide an unchanging black screen such as the blank screensaver and turn the lights out.

Thanks for that informative post. When I display a black background with all the lights turned off, I can see clearly the backlight bleed on where the vista orb is usually displayed when I turn the monitor on from a cold boot. But after a little while, after the monitor warms up it does go back to its normal black. I can also see that the black displayed is not its TRUE black, I think this is LCD's disadvantage with plasma TV's as tehy display the black as true black.
