Hello occhio, welcome to Seven Forums.
In the Properties window on the Recording tab is drive E set as the default recording device?
@occhio, IMO, this does not necessarily point to any problem with your optical drive but to a problem with your Windows 7 installation.
Try doing a repair install Repair Install and then try to make your repair disk.
Good luck.
EDIT: I missed it - that yours is a laptop and you may not have the OEM Reinstall Disk.
Have you made the recovery disks?
Is there an option to repair Windows from the recovery partition as in a Repair install?
When the OEM has provided you System Recovery Options by way of the recovery partition and Recovery Disks, why do you need a System Repair Disk?
I am not sure whether it can even be made on a laptop with OEM installation.

1. I meant Recovery Disks which you should have burnt immediately after receipt of your ASUS laptop - the Recovery Disks with which you can restore it to the factory-install condition.
2. Now I understand from your last post that it is no longer the OEM installation and you have installed your own version or versions :). ( A Repair Install as distinct from a recovery can be run from a bootable pendrive too.)
3. You may plugin an USB external DVD writer and check whether it can burn CDs and DVDs. If it can, it is almost certain that your internal optical drive is faulty and may need to be replaced.
