Transfer Rate lagging on USB 3.0 from WHS to external drive on HTPC

I am copying files from a WHS 2003 to a back-up drive on a HTPC. The WHS and the HTPC are connected physically to a router. The back-up drive is USB 3.0 and plugged into a 3.0 USB input on the HTPC.

The transfer rate is only 40MB/second. Why is this? The data is being transferred via CAT6 cables from the WHS/Router/HTPC and then USB 3.0 to the external drive

    Thanks

Check the server and client network adapter properties are optimized, this is normally where you can expect to find the commonest bottlenecking, I'd be tempted to say run some network monitoring software to see whether you find the ethernet flow is impeded before you necessarily point the finger at the USB3 interface...

Is there any software already included in Norton Internet Security 2012, WHS 2003 or WIN7 that can monitor this?

    Thanks

Task Manager -> Performance tab (top of screen) -> Resource Monitor (lower bottom tile). Then click on the DISK tab and see the response times for disk I/O for the files being xferred.

IS there any way for me to test to see that my USB 3.0 inputs on my computer are working properly?

I just picked up a hard disk dock:
(http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/420). I have tried transferring datat via USB 3.0 to another computer that has an external drive with a USB 3.0 drive. So my router is no longer being used just hard wired USB 3.0 connections between the dock and the external drive. And they are plugged into USB 3.0 inputs in the computer that separates them.

Transfer rate is 40MBs. I am looking into a firware update for the dock as well.

    Thanks
