Optical cable recognised as HDMI

Hello everybody,

I have a Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit pc and an Onkyo receiver. I used to have them linked with an aux cable for music. But since I had enough of the bad sound quality I bought an optical cable and connected it. Now I have the problem that my subwoofer gives a lot of less sound then with the aux cable with the exact same settings and music. Also my pc recognises the optical cable as an HDMI cable and I don't think this is right. I can't change any settings either in the sound.

Pc Wizard told me I have this onboard sound card:
ASRock SB600 High Definition Audio Controller
Pine Technology HD48x0 audio

I hope someone can help me with this.

Have you tried making a new profile for your computer on your AV receiver?
My Yamaha receiver doesn't always like me changing connection type but keeping the same settings.

I currently have my gaming rig plugged into mine via an opical cable, as well as a HDMI cable from the GPU, no added configuration needed, ill check what my connection is registering as, but sure I get 2, hdmi and optical

I cant make profiles on my receiver. But the settings should be right cause with another source it all works fine.
Made some progress now, found a new driver for my soundcard and could change from HDMI to S/PDIF. Still I can't make any changes to the sound settings. If I play music with Media Player Classic I use AC3Filter and then I'm able to get sound out of my subwoofer like it supposed to. But when I play music in Spotify it does'nt use AC3Filter anymore and I'm still with the same problem :S

Hmm I think this is a lost cause Guess my pc only outputs a 2.0 signal. Maybe another soundcard could work.
