its cause by a short. is it the same device everytime? or same slot?

ive had it before and it was a faulty pen drive.

however (and youll lol at this) im forever plugging usb devices into my ethernet socket on my mac as they are next to each other.. it fits perfectly.. and often causes a restart but im sure your not as silly as me

What case do you have? Is it the front panel USB connectors?

Run a virus scan and check whether your USB device - I presume it is a pendrive - is infected. Your computer also needs to be scanned and cleaned.

If after this the problem persists, check your ports with any good pendrive. If it is OK then one can suspect the problem pendrive is faulty. I would backup all data in it , full format it and check again to be doubly sure.

Well if i did test it with a pen drive it might or might not restart because it happens to me randomnly.

What kind of USB device are you plugging into it?
How long is the USB cable?
Does it happen with fornt case USB ports as well as the Rear USB ports on the MB?

Try touching the bare metal in the rear of the case before and as you insert the USB. It sounds like a short in the front panel USN connectors.
