    USB ports not working

I was going to charge a remote control helicopter from my laptop USB port and accidently plugged the end going in to the helicopter in the wrong way. The helicopter went on even though the switch was in the off position and I unplugged it right away. When I tried again after correcting the mistake the USB port wouldn't work. The other USB ports on my laptop stopped working too. They all use to work. I have a wireless mouse that I use and it's not working. I tried uninstalling all the USB drivers and restarting, but that didn't work. I also tried turning off the laptop, unplugging the ac wire, and removing the battery for a minute. I tested the ports out with the mouse and it still doesn't work.

It sounds like you may have shorted the usb controller. Did you smell anything burning at the time?
