Does it work if you try and put a CD/DVD and play it? If it works, you certainly should be able to boot from it.

Do you mean to say that in the boot order in the BIOS, the CD option is not there? Was it there earlier and it has just disappeared now? If yes did this happen after you tried to flash the BIOS?
