The windows 7 disk boots but gets stuck at "Setup is Starting"..
how long is it hanging for before you stop it?
have you tryed letting it run to see if it starts installing?

I'm still letting it run. It seems to do that click periodically. It's never done this before.
i still think your drive is going bad but let it run and see if it will install.

Okay it finally made it through to setup. It's installing now but it always usually gets to a point where it messes up. I partitioned the primary to 25gb but I didn't do anything in a command prompt since this windows 7 disk doesn't seem to have that.

The vista one does but the disk won't load for some reason

omfg guys I did it! I partitioned a 25gb and installed wirn7 on the allocated space. It was able to finalize the install and now I'm sitting at the desktop! Will there be any trouble with it being installed on the non-primary partition? Also, I've heard bad sectors spread, so how should I go about killing those bad sectors?

Congratulations and sorry I had to leave yesterday night. But at my age one needs a certain amount of zzz's.

Maybe you can post a picture of your Disk Management. Then we will see your partition situation. If there is a 100MB active system partition, then the C partition need not be a primary. C needs to be only primary, if it is the active partition.

Bad sectors are not an infection that spreads. But if your disk is of a bad quality, there can of course be more developing. Running chkdsk /r from time to time will relocate the data from those bad sectors. But if it is really bad, you may need a new disk.
