Lets Solve It

After going through the previous post on IDE/ATAPI controllers. Post what the condition was. Is the rom deck in a DMA Mode? Was the check box for enable DMA checked?
Once you answer that we can proceed. In the meantime read and follow this tutorial.

Hi Hammerhead....many thanks again for your patience. Actually, I'd already done the 'DMA' check...all fine. I've now gone to 'Folder Options'>View>unchecked 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' to see if that helped. Not really. Tried the 'Avast Off': a slight improvement, but again, I'd already tweaked that. Avast On/Off with that tweak doesn't seem to make much difference either. One thing I did forget to mention: the jpg files are arranged in folders, so I'm only trying to access one folder at a time, not the whole DVD. I'm really stumped now....guess the moral is: don't fill up a DVD with jpg files! Regards

Persistence is the Key

I still don't know what kind of hardware you are using. Mobo etc. I would look in the bios to see if something that relates to your disk drives is not set correctly.

In the mean time here is a couple of links you might read.
