Printer won't print queue until I shut down computer

Printer (Lexmark X2600) used to work fine. Now computer is sending print jobs to the print queue but nothing gets printed until I shut down the computer. Then everything in the queue prints out. The machine and printer belong to a puter-phobic friend of mine. The CPU is a fairly cheapo "emachine", several years old, w/Windows 7.
Thanks!

Hello June, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if clearing and resetting the printer queue may help in case it may be corrupted. :)

Thanks Shawn,
I'll give that a try this weekend. It's a hassle trying to work on someone else's machine 20 miles away. But I'd really like to get it working for her. I noticed that I could delete all the jobs in the queue but one - maybe clearing it is the key.

My friend's printer is working! I didn't get to try your directions - by the time I got to her place the printer wasn't working at all. It gave a different error message each time we tried it. Ended up uninstalling/deleting everything printer related and had to run the install disc 5 times, trying different variations, before the files finally downloaded correctly (really - how hard can it be to install a printer!?). Thank you very much for your detailed help. I'm saving the info on printer queues for future reference and hope I can pick your brain when I have problems in the future.

Ok, so I have an HP Deskjet 1000 printer. And I'm trying to print a Word document from my other computer, but it's not working. I checked the 'See what's printing' for that printer on the computer where I wanted to print from, and it shows a bunch of documents in queue. I tried to cancel or...

Print Queue Question
So while working as the print administrator for a large healthcare company, I had a big wig come to me expressing concern over a "vulnerability" with their network printers. When printing, print jobs are showing in the print queue as paused.
I have an end user that is printing to a networked Xerox printer. When he prints, his print jobs automatically show in the print queue as "paused". This only happens on the Xerox. I had him try doing this with a networked HP in his area and it doesn't happen on that printer. I have removed and...

Print queue won't clear
I was trying to help someone who could not print. The print queue was present and could not be cleared with the usual cancel operations or by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software. Any ideas? Do we need to do a repair install of Windows? Could the spooler service be defective? ...
