    SCAN Button Event

Ok, so I go to the Scanners and Cameras section of the control panel, click on the properties for my scanner (Canon MP240) and go to Events, it has an event for SCAN button but "start this program" is greyed out and says "no applications are registered for this event"

I would like for it to open windows fax and scan, or ideally, simply scan to a file using a default setting, it seems like I should be able to do this with windows fax and scan, but I cannot find the option.

    Thanks for your help!

Hello johcagaorl. Welcome to the Forum.

This sounds like a driver problem. The driver package for your all-in-one should install and configure the files it needs to interact with W7's functions.

I have 2 Canon printers here, both will scan. The properties for the printers in Scanners & Cameras is different. Different drivers, different properties. My MP3240 has no Events tab at all. And yet I can scan with it using Windows Fax & Scan.

The best you can do is check to be sure you've got the most current W7 driver for your version of Windows from Canon's download site and that it is installed correctly.

Or contact Canon for help (laugh here).

It's a brand new computer and I ran windows update over and over till nothing showed up so the drivers are up to date. It scans fine, the scan button just does nothing, and I can't associate it with windows fax and scan, I guess I can install something else and see if that works.

It is best to use the most recent drivers from Canon.

WU is OK, but in most cases the Windows drivers are generic and not full featured. Just enough to get hardware installed so Microsoft does not get blamed for "bad software" like they did when they did not supply many generic drivers with Vista.
