Need help here. Dell XPS 8300 Win7 Home Premium, 1.5TB HDD, 8GB memory. OS is on my SSD Intel 520 Series, 120GB.
Is this SSD up to standard or too slow. I still have a chance to return and get the Samsung 840 series. TIA
Those numbers look like it's on a SATA II port.
Your XPS should have SATA II and SATA III ports, check your manual and connect it to a SATA III port for better performance.

I agree with kbrady1979's post above and would not recommend a Sandforce SSD.
All the ones listed there are very good, I have a Samsung 840Pro and it's great.

Dave, YOU ARE RIGHT! It was on a SATA II port. Made the proper connection and the improvement shows. Are the numbers acceptable? Since I already got this I think I'll just keep it. Thanks for the tip.

my laptop is way better than my desktop i5 on threaded reads/writes.

    Both same OS.
    Same drivers.
    Same service pack.
Laptop is new clean install tho, pc was migrated from hdd (still not had time to clean install it).

PC is better result on sequential and normal 4k but on threaded 4k the pc has some weird cpu issue where cpu is saturated at low throughput bottlenecking it whilst laptop gets expected result.

    Both using samsung 830s 128gig.

The asus p7p55d-e motherboard with the P55 Express Chipset doesn't have native SATA III, just Marvel controller which doesn't have the performance.
I got better performance from the Intel SATA II ports than the Marvel SATA III on my previous P55 board.

Those nums do not look too bad. But I never use Chrystal - if you could post Atto numbers, it would be easier to compare.

whs, the above was as a result the SSD being connected to the Sata II port. Made the proper connection and this is what I came up with the ATTO benchmark. Good or bad for this SSD model?

Steve is right. Those are good nums. I really only look at the 4K blocksize because this is what counts for the OS. And those nums are comparable with e.g. my Crucial M4 and better than my Vertex 2.

Those numbers are pretty similar to my Intel 520 numbers........before it died that is.
