I thought I'd post this and see if anyone else has the problems I am having with my 128GB M4 (a few people on the Crucial forum have the same issue).

The problem is, after some time, the 64 thread 4k random reads and write performance drops precipitously. Nothiong can bring it back. Trim is enabled and I amd using the Intel RST drivers, I have tried about everything. Trim tools that issue Trim for the entire free space, and nothing helps. I get 64 thread random writes at about 00 MB/s, and reads at about 130. This is way below whta the drive achieves fresh.

The only thing that helps is a secure erase. So every once and a while I image the system, secure erase the SSD, and reinstall the image. After this I get very good results, see the attached image from right after my last refresh cycle yesterday. My 64 thread reads are at 289 MB/s and writes at 150 MB/s (latest Intel RST).

Anybody else here with an m4 seeing this? I wrote to Crucial but they have not responded.

    Cheers

Let the system run on idle over night. The garbage collection may fix it.

Not with my 128GB but I am trying to figure out what is going on with one of my 64GB drives now. My sequential speeds have dropped to about 1/2 of what they were and the 4K-64 is much lower.

I just re-ran mine on the drive I bought last August. It got a clean install with my new motherboard in January but has never been through the Secure Erase process. My scores look just like the ones you just posted.

I do leave my computer on 24/7, so maybe what whs suggested is the reason I haven't seen any trouble.

I have done that of course. It isn't that simple unfortunately.

With the latest IRST drivers I get these sort of results. My 4K-64 has always been poor.

I've been on the Crucial forum for advice and tried suggested tweaks posted here and there. It's very frustrating but 4K-64 writes dropping to ~0 in the GeneO case (if I understand correctly) is more than a worry. He and I have similar motherboards and I wonder if it's related to this.

How do you do a secure erase??

I use parted Magic for a secure erase. these instructions are from the OCZ forums, but it works on any SSD as it issues and internal secure erase command. The only issue you may have is the drive being locked. You will have to hot plug it. I unplug the drive, boot into Parted magic, and as soon as the screen finishes loading, plug the drive back in.

I use the same Steve. With the latest version it lets you put the drive to sleep and wake it. That sometimes unfreezes it and it worked for me.
