I would not worry about it. Maybe you could get higher measuerment numbers with some tweaking. But in real life you would not feel the difference.

I have 2 Mushkin Chronos - a 60GB and a 240GB. I never measured them because they are both used as external drives. They do a beautiful job. And I don't care much about the measured nums anyhow.

Mellon Head, I really have no idea. I assume from the info in AS SSD you are in AHCI mode using the AMD drivers. It says they are OK. My only suggestion would be to roll back to the MSAHCI driver and see if you get better performance. I assume you are connected to port 0 (or 1) whichever is the 1ST port on your motherboard. If not, maybe try that. I'm just throwing out ideas off the top of my head. Mushkin as I see it has rated the drive at 450 MB speed. However, I would suggest you test it in ATTO. I will bet you get better numbers, most likely much better. Sandforce controllers compress data as they write and is how they gain speed. AS SSD uses incompressible data for their tests, which any Sandforce SSD will show worse results. ATTO, does not use incompressible data and Sandforce controllers usually fare much better with that test. That is what I have seen with my older Vertex drive. I will score much better in ATTO than AS SSD.

Mellon Head, after saying all of that, I would have expected a higher score from your drive, but it is not a terrible score. It depends on what you are comparing it to. Compared to a mechanical hard drive it is great. I can show you an AS SSD of a WD1002FAEX, a 7200 RPM 1TB drive. It gets a score of 15 on AS SSD. I'll show it if you want to see it. So, your score is not so bad.
Thanks. It just seems odd to me the performance that I was getting compared with others in this thread. I'll try it with ATTO and see what I get. And I'll check the ports on the motherboard. I've been wondering if my AHCI driver is up to date. I'll check that, too.

Bryan I've noticed it's the SATA controller that's used that affect read/write more than anything else. The Intel iastor controller seems to get better benchmarks than Marvell, JMicron, ASmedia, msahci, etc.

If I switch from iastor to Marvel, both SATAIII, my scores drop a lot but not much difference in actual use. AS SSD scores, in my opinion, are best used to monitor yourself over time rather than comparison to others. I had a Crucial M4 which initially got a score in the 700 range and after 3-4 months dropped to the 200 range. Crucial replaced it for me.

Thanks Gary. I'm actually not sure what controller I have. My user manual just says AMD, and that's what it says in the properties in Device Manager, too.

I had a thought that maybe my SATA ports ran at the speed of the slowest drive...

I don't know if AMD has changed, but the last AMD rig I had (890 chipset) the AMD drivers were junk. I always used the MSAHCI drivers and got much better performance. AMD may have changed all of that by now, but that's the way it used to be. But, Gary's right about Marvel controllers. The Marvell Controllers added to a motherboard have a long history of not getting along well with SSDs. But, you are always safe, AMD or Intel, if you make sure your SSD is connected to port 0.

Dumb question Steve, why is that. What's special about port 0 except for the OS installer.

One reason is port 0, or 1, depending on the board, will assure you use the native SATA controller.

@Bryan, each drive should operate at the speed of the SATA port it's attached to. You may be thinking of RAM which will default to the slowest installed if not a matched set.

Gary's correct, it is also apparently the main port of the board. Most motherboard manuals will tell you 'for best operation use port 0 or 1 for the operating system', or words to that effect.

Rarely run a bench as, well, I have done it before. But just for ***** and giggles.
