mouse freeze

Hello,
I've contacted MS and they don't have an answer.

Here is what I'm experiencing. Hopefully it can be narrowed down
1. sites that have flash content.
2. my touchpad on my laptop does not have the issue (only usb mouse)
3. driver updates do not fix issue
4. usb keyboard also affected
5. if you minimize the browser issue seems to be non existant.
6. resizing the browser, the issue persists

I'm thinking that this is isolated to usb ports. The touchpad for some reason is not affected probably because it's hard connected and not a plug in device.

I can't find the registry setting that can fix this, no driver updates, I wish I had a docking station to see if the problem is still present. I have read that if you go to the os2 port for the mouse with a usb adapter fixes the issue. unfortunately I don't don't have that kind of connection on my laptop.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,
Skillz4

I'm experiencing excatly same problem. Touchpad works fine (it's PS/2 device) and if I put my USB mouse on PS/2 reduction it works quite well (99,9% time).
Holly some1 will find solution soon otherwise W7 goes away and I'm coming back to WXP...

I'm not so thrilled with Win7 at this point. Prior software is no longer compatible, hardware has no drivers and my memory seems to be running at 45% most of the time. I read that Win7 is suppose to use less memory and system resources. The event sounds play well after the activity has been completed. Windows open slower, I use Trillian and the sounds work less than 50% of the time, I try to click on a shortcut and I have to click on it twice and sometimes three times to get it to open. Win7 seems to be just a dressed up version of Vista as far as I can tell. I'm also seriously considering going back to XP. Too much modification to make this run efficiently. What a let down.

windows 7 starter

Hi, i'm new to windows 7 & i only have the starter edition installed on my netbook, a wired moused works fine when connected via usb port, however if you use a wireless mouse in the same usb port it keeps freezing, the first time it happened i thought the wireless mouse i had just bought was faulty so i took it back to the shop & got my money back, i can't say i'm very impressed so far with windoes 7.

I seem to face a similar problem with my USB mouse too. I used it for a week and then suddenly it stopped responding. I unplugged it, connected it to another USB port, it runs for a while and then the problem starts again.

Just a thought... does installing SP1 for Win 7 fix the problem??

Trackball Problems

It has been my experience that Microsoft washed their hands of this problem about two years ago.

Good luck.

My experience with Microsoft was, they washed their hands of the whole situation. They finally refused to look at it any more! That was two years ago. There are many optical trackball problems that Microsoft refuses to look at.

Good luck!

The fix(es) for this problem (mouse hesitating, freezing, etc.) that worked on my system (Win7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit), were these, which I found by Googling and trying many of the things I found:

Vista Ultimate x64 - mouse frequently not responding on various applications
https://social.technet.microsoft.com...e-38c8db25ab39
"Go to Run --> msconfig --> Boot tab --> Advanced options button --> check the # of processors box, and select your computer's number of processors."

Mine was blank, so I set it to 2, the number of processors my CPU has.

then,

Windows 7 RTM 64-bit mouse freezes/stutters multiple times per session - Microsoft Answers
Windows 7 RTM 64-bit mouse freezes/stutters multiple times per - Microsoft Answers

". . . what I tried was going to energy options in my laptop, [Control Panel > Power Options and changed the plan from Balanced to High Performance] and found a "USB selective suspend" setting ... it was set to Disabled by default, so I tried setting it to Enabled. and TADAAA.. problem solved on my laptop.. thats slick I thought.. so I tried it in my desktop computer. same problem, until I changed the same usb settings in poweroptions.. problem solved.."

I don't know if it was either one or the combination of both, but my mouse is now working fine and there is no hesitation. Working on my PC is a pleasure again!

Update (5/9/12): My happiness was short-lived. The problem returned and got worse. I tried a mouse from another machine (should have tried that sooner) and it showed my old mouse was defective. Bought and installed a new mouse and now my problem is gone.
