Windows no longer recognises my secondary monitor

I have a laptop with a secondary monitor plugged in using HDMI. Some time over the last couple of days it has stopped working.

I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the official Intel display drivers and nothing has changed. When I look at the screen res menu and the Intel display menu and neither show that there is another monitor plugged in.

The monitor turns on fine but says no signal and suspends its self. Almost as if the cable isn't plugged in, but it's not been touched.

Any ideas what this could be?
    Thanks.

J, do you have a keyboad shortcut that will allow you to switch between monitor modes, such as extend desktop, duplicate desktop, etc? If you don't, I will tell you how via windows.
Right click your desktop and select "screen resolution". Do 2 monitors show up? Click "Detect". Click "Connect to a projector" and select the option you want.

    Hope this helps

I have that keyboard function button but it doesn't seem to do anything.
When I click Detect, it says "Another display not detected".

I edited my original post, re-read it once more and let me know if it doesn't work. Make sure you have all windows updates installed!

Test the monitor on another computer if you can to make sure it works

After clicking connect to a projetor the screen went black for a bit and looked like it was going to work. Now i have two screens showing on the screen page. One is called "Mobile PC Display" and the other is "Display device on: VGA" - But i have nothing plugged into the VGA output, only the HDMI output. My monitor still wont come out from suspended mode.

try changing the screen resolution on your laptop. try updating the graphics card's driver. If you let me know what computer you have, I could link you to the correct driver.

*Edit You already updated the display driver

Other than this, I am out of ideas

Its a Packard Bell EasyNote TS13-HR.

The first thing i did was remove the drivers using device manager and reinstall them from the Parkard Bell website. Changing the res doesn't take the monitor out of suspension either..

You might try uninstalling the driver again with Revo Uninstaller Free using advanced mode (create restore point!), then installing the new driver. I went to the website and it lists AMD, Nvidia and Intel VGA. Are you sure you are downloading the right one?

They offer a tool which told me that mine is Intel, how else would I know? I'll give Revo a go

that should be good. other than that, I don't really know what you could try.

Test the monitor on another computer to make sure it works, and see if you can test a different monitor on the laptop to see if a different monitor will work. Sometimes monitors don't work with certain hardware.

Do you know if you used to be able to connect to this particular monitor, or if you were ever able to connect to a monitor? with the laptop?
