    Disabling the touchpad

I am certain I saw it in here - how to disable the touchpad when a wired mouse is plugged in.

I have a Toshiba laptop and the only way that it allows me to disable the touchpad is to uninstall it but however annoying it is I don't want to do that - just in case.

    Any ideas anyone please?

Normally you can disable / enable Touchpad on Toshiba laptops by pressing Fn + F9.

If you have Windows 7, you can go to Control Panel and start typing in the word
" mouse". You won't have to type the complete word when you will see the mouse icon at the left. Open it and you will see where you can disable it.

Sorry you folks FN+F9 doesn't work - there is no option in mouse for disbaling the touch pad in fact there is no mention of it. Device manager lists a Microsoft plug in - which isn't there and the HID that I am using.

The only option I have it seems is to unistall it which I suppose I'll have to do. Both Toshys I have had have been nothing but very expensive trouble - this one is definitely the last time Toshiba will get any money out of me!

This might not be your case and work for you but is IMO worth to mention:

I do not know Toshibas. But for instance in my HP, the secondary (Fn) functions for function keys are on by default, so it works "reversed": When I would normally need to press Fn + an F-key, a simple F-key press without Fn is enough, and when I need a normal function key task I have to press Fn+F-key.

This behavior can be changed but by default my HP Envy has Fn already selected. For instance, to close a window I instead of pressing ALT+F4 need to press Fn+ALT+F4. If this is true on your Toshiba, then it would be F9 alone that switces touchpad off and on?

Yeah I found that too Kari on twp Compaq lappys I did recently this wretched Toshiba is just not going to do it - I might have to contact the local Toshiba people and see what they say - probably service call in which case I'll uninstall it and have done with it.

Pretty damn cross about it though as the machine was not cheap

    Ah well onwards ever upwards

What about a simple utility like this one?

I'd first look at the touchpad manufacturers website for driver updates though... :)

On my Dell laptop I have a wireless mouse. When I plug in the USB antenna for the mouse, the touchpad is disabled. When I take it out, the touchpad works.
