    Hi.

For a brand new rechargeable batteries this is the right method.

For the moment don't plug it to the power charger.

You need to follow these steps for 2 times.

Use it only with the battery, for now dont run any important program\work let the battery to completely "dry",of course the laptop will shutdown.

Let the laptop off and connect it on the charger, let it few hours to charge the battery.

Unplug the charger, start the laptop, again dont run any important program\work,let the battery to get completely empty (of course the laptop will shutdown again.)

Let the laptop off and connect it on the charger, let it few hours to charge the battery.

    Start the laptop,now,

You can use it with the battery and the power\charger the same time.

You can use it without the battery and connected in the power\charger.

The above steps helps to "increase" the battery capacity and charging cycles.

"Normally" your dell have little lights in front some models have red\empty,green\full
    yellow\empty blue or green full......

""Battery with the charger or battery without the charger?"

    Is not really important.

Though without the battery you have the risk to lose any important unsaved work in case of electrical failure or from accidental charger unplug.

    Hey.

If you don't have a battery, plug the charger on but it will still work. My batteries been taken out and its charging. Don't take it out, or the whole thing will urgently turn off.

i only run my mac connected to the mains to charge it, as soon as its charge i unplug it and use it on battery.
I also cycle my battery to a low % occasionally before a full charge.

15 months on i can still get 8 hours from a full charge

    You are welcome :)

Remember to "dry" at least 2 times the battery
