Hello ruby and welcome to Seven Forums. Since you can see the Western Digital in disk management, you might be able to assign a drive letter by using Option One in this tutorial.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ndows-7-a.html

If that works as I hope it will you should be able to open the WD and retrieve the data via start > computer > new drive letter. You might also be able to use a free tool called Recuva.

Recuva - Recovery from damaged or formatted disks

thanks for welcome me to the forum

    referring to my problem
i have tried what you suggested to assign a letter to the drive but those
    options are not available
when i connect the drive a message appears that says
you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager access it
i click ok but then a message appears and says
    the device is not ready
and the option online doesn't appear only offline and i dont want to lose my data
    thanks in advanced

Try with a live Linux CD. Puppy is an easy one. http://puppylinux.com/download/
