    Pentium D CPU Overheat 112 F

    Hello all,

I have the Pentium D Dual core 3.20 GHZ CPU in my computer and it has been overheating.

Last week it shut down due to heat, and earlier today it was at 112 F (44.5 C).

Attached is a screenshot from my BIOS "Hardware Monitor"

Have you opened your case and cleaned out the dust from your case? Excessive dust in a case building up from long periods of not being maintained can cause heat. I would open my case and see if it has alot of dust around the area were the heat sink and fan were the cpu is located and clean it out with a compressed air can. Just make sure if your touching parts inside the case to be touching something metal like the outside of the case to avoid a static discharge to your components. Or you can wear a static wrist band and do it like that but I just keep one hand touching the case while the other one is cleaning the case to avoid a static discharge.I recommend doing this with the plug to the power removed though to avoid getting shocked.

That is hardly considered overheating for a processor...especially that processor. When you start getting into the 60 degree C range, then you have to start being careful.

Check your event viewer for an error code around the time of the shut down.
