    CTRL and W Not Working

I cannot use the CTRL and W keys on my keyboard. I have gone through all of the regular uninstall the keyboard and all associated drivers with the computer and none of it has worked. I am using the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000. Any ideas what could be going wrong? It happened earlier today out of no where. The batteries have also been changed with new ones and that did not fix it. I have also done a Windows Restore to a previous time when it did work and that did not help. I have no other keyboards to test with at this time either. Does anyone have any ideas? Both keys work on their own but not together.

Edit: I cannot use the W key with any other keys.

To close a window try Alt+F4. What other hotkey functions are you trying to do with the W key?

Ahhh, I see. I don't game so didn't know that. It may be some glitch in the game(s) software if the keys work independently.
Or get a different keyboard. It could be the keyboard can't work with your game, I don't really know.

It is not in the games it's selves. It is windows. I could not use CTRL W for instance to close a tab in IE9/Firefox anything.

So just to be sure I understand, ctrl+w, shift+w, and alt+w (the only program I am aware of this doing anything in is Office Word, so you might not be able to test this) do not work, but ctrl+[anything else] does work?

I suppose it could be the keyboard itself. I've heard of weird issues with keyboards malfunctioning. Like the enter key working by itself but shift+enter and ctrl+enter not working on a keyboard but it working with any other keyboard on the same computer. I really don't know of any Windows setting that would keep specific button combos from working and you did pretty much all the troubleshooting you can do besides trying another keyboard. Is their anyway you could convince a friend or family member to let you borrow their keyboard long enough to test it?

W does not work with a lot of keys. It works with shift but not alt ctrl, a, s or d. I have not tried others. I have no access to other keyboards.

    Check pause/break button

I know this thread is old, but this may help others. I was having this problem until I realized my pause/break button was depressed. Try hitting that if Ctrl+w isn't working for you.
