How to transfer data from HDD to SSD reliably.

I just purchased a SATA3 128 GB solid-state drive and have been trying to use Acronis TrueImage to transfer my current partitions and I must say without ease. Needing to run start-up repairs after the data has been transferred to new drive but they are not solving the problem. Is there an easier program or should I say more failsafe as I have previously had no problems with Acronis TrueImage but this is the first time I have tried to restore partitions to a smaller disk even though the 128 GB is still larger than my data. I guess this is not much information but at this point I'm fairly frustrated and looking for an easier way without having to do a clean install.
    Cheers

acronis has often been painfully slow for me, but I have never experienced the kind of problem you are apparently having with it.
There is an enormous amount of apps out there for this though.
My suggestion is you move to a partition clone app.
Very similar to what you are using with trueimage, but a bit simpler / less to go wrong.

Don't really know what to say? As I have found quite often with computer problems I woke up the next day and did exactly the same thing with no issues whatsoever, thanks for the assistance anyway.

Sometimes a simple restart works wonders.

The only problem with cloning or imaging is alignment on the SSD. Although not free ($19.95), Paragon Migrate will transfer the OS, format and align the SSD. I have used it numerous times and it has never failed.
