New computer. I can't get my printer to print

I have a new computer. It's a Gateway DX4860 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My printer is an HP Deskjet F4480. I have it hooked up to my computer via a USB cable.

I can't print from any program. I've tried Word 2010, ie9, Mozilla Firefox and notepad. When I open the queue, there is nothing there. I've also tried to print a test page with no success. I have downloaded and installed the most recent drivers from the HP web site with no success. When I run the fix it utility provided by microsoft, it does not find any problems. The printer is selected as the primary. What have I missed?

Does it show up in Devices and Printers?
Is it set as the default printer?
Does the HP Digital Imaging Monitor detect it?
    Did the drivers install correctly?
Don't connect it to your PC until prompted or the install will fail.

OK, just wanted to make sure, especially the install part. I have an HP all in one and have seen what happens if you plug the printer in too soon. Is the Print Spooler Service running?

The print spooler was also working. I'm in the process of uninstalling everything and then resintalling. I am going to try a different USB port this time...

...and it worked this time. That's odd that it wasn't working before.

    Thank you for your help.

lol, thats just one of those classic computing moments.
Blame it on the leap year.
What counts is you got it working. :)
