You may give TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet a try to allow complete control of a remote PC.

My experience burning DVDs remotely is:

    • Using Teamviewer (including XP on remote PC)
    • Using a PC manufacturer's utility to create Recovery disc's
    • Maybe burning a Backup Image using a program such as Acronis?...
    • When someone is at the remote PC, and I am helping that person

I haven't had problems with this.
My experience is different than your scenario, so I'm not sure I can help much...
Hopefully someone else will see this thread and have other/better ideas.

When your remote burning using ImgBurn doesn't work:

    • What happens?
    • Is there any error message(s)?
    • Is there someone at the remote PC when you try to burn?
    • If someone is there, can they burn a disc while you are connected?
    • Are you connecting to a remote PC when no one is at that PC, and a blank disc is loaded?

    Go figure !
Maybe just hitting it with a hammer enough really worked

Anyway, glad it's fixed now and hope it keeps working for you.

First , how remote is the other machine - You can not open , put a CD and close a machine that is too far away . if it's close - why to use a remote control .
