Recover an unallocated dynamic volume.
I accidentaly deleted the volume D from by dynamic disk0 and it now shows as unallocated space. Is there any way to revert that?

Hi papoos, welcome to 7F! :)
I have never had cause to use: Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.1, but I believe the Partition Recovery Wizard will do what you need.
There is a Video tutorial link below the screenshot.
Hi anak I tried that but the next button is greyed as you can see in the pic.
I think its because its a dynamic drive and has other active volumes in it?
Actually I wanted to convert to basic so that I could try out ubuntu using wubi. I wont run on dynamic discs
So I tried the option 4 in this guide Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk
In that I clicked delete volume D in disc0 and then I noticed that I could not delete the whole disc because the volume C contains windows.
Now I need to get back volume D
Convert to Basic HD non-destructively using free Partition Wizard bootable CD version 4.2 which is the last version the feature was offered for free: pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live
Burn to CD using Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn, boot CD and follow these video tutorial steps: How to convert dynamic disk to basic disk with Partition Wizard?
You may have to delete any partition you added which tipped the HD to dynamic, before it will convert.
Once converted run the Partition Recovery Wizard again to see if it can retrieve the deleted partition.

Okay, so here is my experience with deleted partition.
I got a 2 TB hard drive with dynamic partition. I combined two partition into this dynamic disk, sized 1.5TB and 0.5TB. My OS is Windows 7 x64 sitting on a different hard drive.
Now, because I am trying to backup my Ubuntu in my laptop, I need something that can read ext4 file system. Thus, I plugged in my laptop hard drive into my PC running Ubuntu 12.10 x64 Live from USB. Then copied my laptop hard drive's contents to another drive on my PC (I got 6 hard drives running).
Here is the disaster: Ubuntu can't recognize the dynamic partition. It is normal. But then, when I finished backing up and rebooted into my Windows, my dynamic disk was missing. It was shown as unallocated space in Disk Management. WTF! I am not even changing anything in there, not even touch it!
Here's the fix:
- Install and run Mini Tool Partition Wizard
The free edition will do. I was using v7.8.- Head over to Wizard >> Partition Recovery in the menu bar.
- Now, scan the "missing" dynamic drive. Do a Full Scan. It takes overnight in my case, ~5 hours. Click on the listed partition and choose finish then apply.
- Now, it is recovered and I can see it from Disk Management and I can assign a drive letter. BUT, the partition was NOT correct. It was recognized as one 2TB normal partition and a 0.5TB of unallocated space. So, totalling 2TB+0.5GB, I got 2.5TB there. AND some of the files can't be opened, they were damaged - I supposed because part of them are stored dynamically in the other 0.5TB part.
- I take my chance then. I changed the partition type manually using the same tool. Click the disk and chose Change Partition Type ID on the sidebar. Scroll down and choose Dynamic Volume (0x42), then apply.
- It worked! Completely recovered as before, previously damaged files are recovered too.
@harnendra I want to thanks you soo oooo much. I had the exact problem as you described And I was so afraid I lost 630 gb of memories And music And lots more..
I now recovered my filesystem!
@forum mods, sorry for creating an account to dig up some 3 year old topic. But It was worth it
And from now on I will make that backup
Cheers!
Welcome Yohannus,
You did a great job digging up the right solution from an old thread that resolved your problem. That also brought it to my notice and I have learnt something which I didn't know so far. Thanks for coming in and sharing your joy. Congrats.
