Can't print locally but can via network

I installed an HP C4680 all in one printer on my Windows 7 desktop. I set it up to do network sharing. A lot of my computing is done via my Macbook Pro which accesses my local network wirelessly. I configured it to do remote printing via my W7 desktop. Everything's been working ok there, but yesterday I found that I can no longer printer on my local printer from my W7 desktop! Even trying to print a test page yields nothing. I can still scan from the scanner, and read and write SD cards from the card reader. I tried the troubleshooting wizards. I tried delting the printer, unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again to have it reinstalled. Still no dice. One thing that I noticed, is that when the printer is reinstalled it's named "HP Photosmart C4600 series (Copy 1)". When I try to rename it to remove the "(Copy 1)" I'm given an error saying that another printer with that name already exists. However, nothing by that name shows up on my printer list. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

PS. I've also tried rebooting, and power cycling the printer. No dice.

    Welcome to 7 forums Algebravic
With your printer came an installation CD why don't you use it to perform a reinstall.
I have an HP photosmart C4783 and when i face a prob. i put the cd and follow the screen ininformations.
Before doing so you have to complitely remove the installed program and after the reinstall look for updates from HP

    Good luck

Well said Hannah, just a rider to that, I would download the latest drivers from HP, I never use the CD's that come with devices, they have invariably been updated since.
So complete removal, reboot, install downloaded drivers\software.

I deleted the printer, unplugged it, and shut down. I rebooted, and then plugged the printer back in. It was detected, and windows automatically downloaded the software from HP which it reinstalled. Unfortunately I have the same problem -- I can print from my macbook, via the network, but not locally. How do I find out which software needs to be removed (and why wasn't that done in the reinstall -- incompetent of windows). Since it's an HP computer there's lots of software with the HP name.
