help with good 32gb of ram

in in of itself, 32gb of ram is good... but i want to make sure that going for the lower price isnt gunna come back to bite me in the A**.

here is what i was looking at

has small heat sinks which is a blessing and a curse, i wanted smaller because i am wanting a noctua dh14. simultaneously, 32gb is bound to cause some heat...
it only has one rating which is worrying me, but the 1 rating is 5stars also...

i need some persuasion here... is this really a good choice, and will it even fit under a dh14?

G-Skill is a very good brand...I use them. Just make sure that the RAM your getting is on your mobo QVL. The DDR3 is way cheaper than the DDR2....for what ever reason. Other than that you should be good to go.

Just look around for the feed back and reviews of the RAM...generally a good indicator if good or bad.

kk, i saw on the noctua website it will fit with ripjaws so i may go with that...

from what im aware of, not enough mobos support ddr2 anymore, so it is now harder for companies to sell, so to cover cost of production, they increase the going rate.

no im not going with that philosophy. i am a 3d developer as i have mentioned in other threads before. when you are uploading, downloading, manipulating, and exporting uncompressed files AND rendering... MORE IS IN FACT BETTER. although only about 10gb is used during the rendering process, my ability to continue using the application during rendering is slowed down and usually almost maxes out my ram.

when i play bf3, my ram runs at 93%

when i use inventor, 75%

when i use maya or 3ds, about 80%

when i use the udk and cryengine, about 46%

when i am manipulating 3d material in life time RENDERED it can be as high as 95%


and on top of that if i have to do research on my work it maxes out...

all this on 10gb of ram


i dont like feeling like i am trapped with with this little ram, when i sometimes NEED more, and dont have it.

i was considdering 16gb, but these applications will utilize as much as they feel they possibly can. when i use an application, their process slowes down, and sometimes crashes during the process of shrinking ram ussage by killing their own processes. the more ram i have, the less of this will happen.

Yeah, that would be my question too. What are you going to do with 32GBs of RAM. I have 8GB running Win7 and 2 virtual partitions with Win8 and Ubuntu and I have never seen all the 8GBs used. There is even plenty of space for caching.

yes, but running virtual machines,

maya

luxrender

mental ray

and using firefox

will take a larger toll on your system than one would think

I'm unsure where my RAM usage is at when I play BF3, but with 8GB or 4GB, I can play BF3 just fine. It's probably just loading more textures since you have more RAM available, but I'm unsure if it would translate to more performance or not.

Sounds like you have thought it out. I just find some people who see very little "free" RAM and assume they need more. Or they figure they can really get a performance boost by adding a ton of low cost RAM only to find out that there performance is pretty much the same after they spend the money.

im not exactly looking for more performance, just not to take a performance hit.

i think part of my excessive need for ram is, i IDLE at 30%, when in use it runs up to 35% to 40%, realize, that means when i use my computer... GENTLY!!! lol, it is running up to 4gb. idk what my computers problem is, it will do this almost streight out of a clean install of windows. im thinking it is hardware realted.

also running server end team speak, ventrilo, and game servers, does NOT help my cause, this somtimes puts me above 5.8gb
