Hi,
I'm running W7 Home Premium with 4GBs of Ram and an i7 processor. When I start my laptop up, it uses about 1.5 - 1.7 GBs of Ram. Is this normal? And atm I'm running 106 processes (screenshots below) and I'm unsure which ones I can kill. I only know about Nettalk, Firefox, Thunderbird, Dropbox, sparta.exe and screen.exe.

Yes, that is close to normal.
I don't see your screenshot.
106 processes is very high. I rarely have even 60.
Go to msconfig and look at the startup tab. How many items are checked?? Windows will start with none checked.
Go to msconfig and look at the services tab. Check "hide all Microsoft services". How many are then shown as checked. I have 8 non-Microsoft services checked.
Most likely, you have a bunch of crap running that doesn't need to be running, but the fact is that Windows 7 likes to use RAM. I wouldn't worry about 1.5 to 1.7 being used. Right now, I am using 1.14 out of 4. You may be able to get yours down a little by turning off unnecessary stuff.
Agreed, also Win7 is very good at memory management, because you are showing 4Gb usage currentlt does not mean you can't run other things, Win7 will reorganise running tasks to free up memory.
Also consider looking at the number of service you can stop and even prevent from starting .Blackvipers website is the best place for that.

You can post pictures directly to this forum, without using dropbox.
I've never even heard of most of those processes. Many are clearly unnecessary, but they are harmless unless you are having issues.
You don't mention having any issues, so why worry?
What did you see in msconfig on the services tab, with all MS services hidden, as I mentioned in my first post?
Uncheck EVERYTHING in the boot tab of msconfig except your antivirus and reboot. How much RAM usage and how many processes do you then see?

Yea, Ram use seems normal. But I agree, 106 processes seems a bit much.
Mine runs between 60-70, and I leave quite a few things running.

The thing with windows 7 is this that the more ram you throw at it, the more it tends to use but its memory management is also much better than its predecessors.
And do a full scan with malwarebytes.. You never know, malware are getting smarter every day..
