Akasa Card Reader USB 3.0 not working properly

    Hi Guys,

I decided to replace my old internal card reader with the Akasa 3.5" internal 6-slot multicard reader with Superspeed USB 3.0 [AK-ICR-07U3]

What I thought was going to be a 5 minute job became a bit of a headache. I've installed it and powered up the pc, it seemed to be working but then I got the message that the device could not be installed and no drivers were found. So off I go to Akasa website, I located the model and under support I found a "installation software" (even though the manual makes no mention of it and it's supposed to be "plug & Play").

I installed the driver and again it seemed to work, I was able to use my camera's memory card but when I tried to use another memory card it just froze, the reader gets stuck with the "reading light" all the time on even when I take the card out ... if I switch off the pc the card reader will still be stuck with both power and reading lights on, the only way for it to go off again is if I switch the power supply off.

When I power the pc on it all looks fine until I try to actually use the card reader ... the usb port seems to be working fine though.

    My system is this:
    • Intel Core i7-2600 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
    • Integrated Intel HD2000 Graphics
    • 8GB Corsair DDR3
    • Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V GEN3 Intel H61 (REV B3) Motherboard
    • Windows 7 - 64bit

    Any help?

This post will probably not help at all but in my experience with Akasa in a retail environment I've found that a lot of their complex hardware is, to put it bluntly, pants. This is mainly due to their drivers.
For fans they are absolutely not at fault; but anything more advanced than a spinning piece of plastic seems to befuddle their software designers.

That's pretty much my two cents and it doesn't answer your hardware problem but gives you an insight into why it may have arisen. I'll hand over to someone who has better thoughts on the subject now.

    Seems to be the case

Does anyone have the Win 7 x64 driver for these? I tried to do the firmware update from their website, but it says the device isn't connected. When I plug it into the power cab;e it is installed as a generic USB root hub, and it still isn't recognized by the firmware update.
