SATA USB Adapter With Macbook Formatted Hard Drive

    Hello all,
I am trying to access my wife's macbook hard drive via my Windows computer using the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter. The Apple techs said they could not get the drive to register when they hooked it up. However, we gave it a good drying with blow dryer.

The adapter works fine and all the correct drivers installed.

I am in disk management and the 250GB drive seems to be showing up. However, it is not showing up in My Computer and right click shows "assign a letter" is grayed out.

    Please check out the photo:

You are going to need a utility like MacDrive
to read the files. About all you can do directly from the windows management in this instance is format the drive. (which would result in the complete loss of data on the drive)

Also if any of the apparent moisture involved got inside the housing it's very possible the data is damaged beyond recovery. Since hard drives save data to the disk by creating what is essentially rust (iron oxide) manipulated magnetically on the surface.

There is likely a free utility out there that does the job. I just don't deal with mac's very often personally so it's not something I would be aware of, you might try google.

Macdrive had a free trial. I installed it and everything worked perfect. Thanks
