Logitech Unifying Receiver appears when none are connected

    Hi,
Even if there aren't any Logitech Unifying Receivers connected to my computer, one always appears in my "Devices & Printers" window. How do I get rid of it?

Look in the device manager. There's probably a Logitech device you need to disable or uninstall.

Thanks Sardonicus, but unfortunately there's nothing in the Device Manager listing a Logitech device. If I connect an actual unifier, all sorts of stuff pops up in the Device manager and an extra unifier appears in the Devices & Printers window. When I disconnect it, it returns to the previous state ::HATE!::

    Hello, CyberGolem.
    Unplug your device, try,
Device Manager does not display devices that are not connected to the Windows XP-based computer
After following steps 1 through 4, go to "Mice and other pointing devices" and "Human Interface Devices".
If you see a translucent Logitech mouse device, uninstall it.

Thanks again but when I get to step 2 an error message rears its ugly head:
Windows cannot find 'set'. make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I also just noticed the link is for a Windows-XP based computer and mine is Windows 7.

It's for Vista and 7, as well.
I used it a few times without any problems.

You can cut and paste "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", no parenthesis and also "start devmgmt.msc", no parenthesis, into the cmd line. That's a good way to do it, and not get errors.

Do you mean quotes instead of parenthesis? Either way, I've done it with and without both and even tried it with percentage signs... nada

    Success, W00t!

The unifying device disappeared after removing it in the DM. Interesting enough, it wasn't listed as a Logitech device at all, but had a generic name. It looks like it was for a different type of receiving device albeit still for a Logitech mouse--just not one with a unifying receiver.

Between Microsoft, Apple and Logitech I often swoon for the days of the abacus.

    Thanks Sardonicus.
