Windows 7: Not recognizing my KVM Switch

Not recognizing my KVM Switch

Hi,
I have a home-built PC running Win7-64 with an IoGear MiniView PRO [GCS-1782g] to switch only my KB&M between this PC and my Mac workstation. My speakers and monitors are not being managed by the KVM-switch. This once worked perfectly so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening now.

The Mac responds perfectly on either side of the KVM-switch, but my PC won't recognize the KVM-Switch beyond a "BONG" sound if it's unplugged. The Device Manager shows it as an 'unknown device' under two places: Other Devices & Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

I've tried uninstalling the devices in the device manager, then restarting multiple times. It did grab just once. However, it let go and I haven't been able to get it to work again.

I've tried looking for drivers, but I think this KVM-Switch doesn't use any. At least there isn't a reference to a driver installation in the manual, and Win7 can't seem to locate any.

Is there a way to force Win7 to grab a hold of it without "searching for drivers"? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

~Chaz

Appreciate it Hannah, but I've already tried it. Unfortunately there isn't any useful info in it.

It looks like you have done everything that was needed to trouble shoot the issue.I would recommend calling or emailing IOGear and asking them what is causing the issue. I recently had a need for a Cat5 KVM solution an decided to go with KVMSwitchTech. They offer a wide range of competitively priced Cat5 KVM Switch solutions.

Thanks Hanna, I ran it but don't know if it did anything. I still have to un/replug my mouse for every switch over <annoyed>

John, I have no idea what this Cat5 solution is. My KB&M are USB. I'm intrigued by the notion though.
