Can coolermaster PSUs fit in normal cases?

    Hello,

My friend have a normal CPU case, which he got from the vendor with his PC. In that case the PSU is fitted on top. Is it possible that he gets a coolermaster PSU and fit it in that case?

    thanks.

Yes, if your friend's case has the "ATX" form factor.

Maybe, if the case has the "micro ATX" form factor.

If it is ATX it will fit but take into mind some PSU are bigger then others and measuring the size of space that you have would be a good idea

Get the exact dimensions that the old PSU have im sure if your not doing anything to heavy a normal 450 500 w would probally fit snug in that empty slot but once again take into consideration the size and height width of the PSU it will keep you from having a headache later

The only real way to know for certain is to measure the old PSU and compare it to the dimensions of the PSU you want to replace it with.

Be mindful of where you get the dimensions of the new PSU, however. I needed a new PSU for my micro-ATX case, but the dimensions given on Amazon for the replacement I wanted to purchase made it seems too large. I asked a reviewer if Amazon's measurements were accurate, and he very kindly opened his machine and measured it for me. The PSU was smaller than Amazon said. I went to the manufacturer's website and confirmed Amazon's dimensions were wrong.

It turns out Amazon listed (for this PSU, at least) the dimensions of the box it comes in, not the PSU itself - so I would not trust any retailer's dimensions. Check with the manufacturer.

I'm a bit late to the party, but:

Does your friend's PC use an industry standard ATX power supply?

ATX power supplies have a section size of 150 X 86 mm.

(ATX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Their lengths vary. The Cooler Master Real Power Pro (1250W) is 180 mm long. That may be too long for some cases. A more typical unit might be 140 mm long.

You are correct BOBKN. I checked the dimensions and the cabinet was small for the PSU. The best option (we opted and done it) was to get a coolermaster cabinet.

We got a Coolermaster Elite 430.

    Again, thanks a lot everyone.
