    Cant upgrade my memory

I have an acer 5735 travelmate. It can take a max of 8gb memory. I currently have 1x 4 gb ram . I recently ordered another 1x 4gb stick same as that of the existing ram.
After installing the new ram the pc( win 7 64 bit) takes 4 mins to boot up. When i try to see the installed memory it doesnt display any information. When i swap the sticks and install them on their own the laptop works fine. Ihave tried it on both slots and slots seem to be fine with each ram stick on its own. Its only when i try using them together to get max of 8 gb my laptop stops responding. Can someone help me with this issue

    Hi matrixxxx, welcome back! :)

    Could be two things:

1.) How does the new stick you bought compare to the original?
Is the new one DDR3 SDRAM; DDR3-1066/PC3-8500?
I couldn't find your 5735, this is the 5744; see memory list: TM5744-6467 | Product Model

2.) They both work individually, but not together so that would make me think they are somehow incompatible.

    EDIT:

Looked around, and I found some ambiguity.

Crucial, Kingston, and Memory.com say the 5735 can only handle 4GB max, but Best Buy says 8.

And if you go to the manufacturer's website and fetch the documentation for your computer?

Your manufacturer's website and/or forum is the ideal location to find an answer for your problem.
