    Graphics Card Change, Strange Booting Before Bios POST


    Hello
    New To The Forums Here So Heya =]
    This lil issue never really bothered me but is so irritant its like a bad itch.
    was wondering if anybody would take 2 secs to give a tiddy hand lol

    basicly:
    when i press the ON button without my ATI Radeon HD 5450 in the PCI-E slot my pc makes 1 click sound then i can see the POST and away we go (Whopp)
    but with the ATI Card installed it clicks like 10 times and the front lights flash every time it clicks (i say clicks cause thats what it dose sound like lol) the power and HDD light flash, its like its resetting itself severaltime to get power buildup to run the card :S
    on the box for the card it says MINIMUM 300W PSU so i though hmm my standard wont do no good, so i got myself a 500W ATX PSU an still dose it and on the ol trusty CPU-Z it reads its running at 8x when apaz my mobo is up-to 16x an my ATI is a 16x but the main Q is whats with what loks like bad starting, its like a old vw in the cold lol

    any ideas??

    I Have Also Another Computer With A PCI Graphics Card on XP Which USED to run fine but now since a reinstall with the same drivers and same OS as was same disc, wont work past the Boot Manager unless its run in VGA Mode, Any Ideas Here??

    Hello mileztyler1205. Welcome to the Forum.

    Because you say that when you take the 5450 card out of the PC you still get video that leads me to assume that the motherboard has on-board graphics.
    It is necessary to disable the on-board graphics chip in order to use a video card. Newer motherboards switch the on-board chip off automatically, but some older boards required you to do so manually in the BIOS settings. That is where you should start.

    The "click" sound is interesting. Most PCs beep, not click. Here I am going to guess that the speaker on the motherboard or computer case is defective and rather that beep you are just getting an electronic snap (or click).

    As for the second machine it sounds like the video driver did not install correctly.
    Completely uninstall all graphics card software and the driver. Then restart and try again.

    And it is always better to write 2 posts. Otherwise it gets very confusing as to what question is being addressed.
