Western Digital Blacks are quicker than Blues...but outside of benchmarks I don't think it would make a big difference. However, the Blacks are noticeably louder than the Blues. I own them both, and if I had to buy another one right now, I would do a Blue.

That's why I said I was going to wait on the SSD. I'll be getting 120gb next week I think. And thanks for the advice on hard drives. That makes my decision a little easier because that 1tb Seagate is 85 right now.

I thought this was just about replacing a HD that might be ready to fail.
Now it sounds like a new PC build.

Are you planning to move your Win 7 license to the "New PC"?
What version of Windows do you have?
An OEM version/license is only good for the original MB/PC...
A Retail license can be moved to a new PC...

It sounds like you could pretty much keep your current rig, and build a new one from what i hear now.

This is true. Windows will work on my new rig. I was planning on building a new one from the beginning and then my hard drive started clicking. So it was about the hard drive. I'm just stating about this since someone mentioned it when I was talking about a fresh install.

    OK, understood.
If it was me, after getting the new Win PC up and running,
I would wipe the HD in the current rig and install Linux...

Who knows, maybe the current 'questionable' HD will last for years...
    It's a no cost option/possibility.

Or sell, part-out, donate the old rig, if you don't want it...

A few of the parts my friend bought me so I'm going to give them back to him. If he wants the whole thing then I'll sell him the parts that I bought. If not, then I'm going to give it to my parents.

If I can't find a better priced hard drive than that 1tb Seagate, then I'll end up getting that Friday. So if anyone finds a decent priced one, let me know.
