    News flash - CD/DVD drive gone again! Tested in another machine and the device is fine.

    Oh well, I can live without it and use a USB CD/DVD drive on this machine.

    You're right.... there's something not quite right about the f700 models. Maybe if I hang it out the 4th floor window by it's feet it will start cooperating

    I am convinced that it is the controller on the motherboard that fails. Every now and then it flickers some life just to lead us on to waste some more time on it!
