    Have I "bricked" my extrenal

I tried Parted Magic to secure erase a Seagate external to give to someone else but nothing happened in the Parted magic set up and now even though I have the dum dum when I plug the drive in it does not show up in Computer or diskpart.

    Have I killed this one?

I suspect you only have unallocated space left. Go into Disk Management and define a partition. Then you'll see it in Computer.

Ok Wolfgang I have found what you said it would be and tried to create a partition as per your tutorial using diskpart however the reply comes back as the drive is write protected.

Hmm, I wonder how that came about. Try the 'Initialize to MBR Disk' function of Partition Wizard. Maybe you can restart with a clean slate.

Post display of maximized DiskManagment output per this procedure:

HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
    Run disk management:
    WIN |
    type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
    WIN=
key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
    ALT-Spacebar
key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.

    Make a snapshot:
    WIN |
type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.

    Hello ICit2lol.

    Follow this steps to :
    1. Attach that device.
    2. Go to Computer Management then to Disk Management.
    3. Right click on Disk 5.
    4. Click Initialize or anything other like that with Initialize.
    5. Right click on Unallocated space.
    6. Create new simple volume.
    7. That will open new wizard and complete it.
    8. That is it :)

    I think that will work.

I tried to find how to disable it and searched on Google.

I found this : How to Disable Write Protection on a Hard Drive | eHow.com

Hum tried T but the drive doesn't even have a letter.

I tried lock disk 5: off but it's telling me that is no recognised instruction as "lock"

Look I think the drive is dead and I might as well bin it.
