Rats. So what did you do? The only options I see are learn to live without it (that is what has worked fine for about 4 months, but I would still like stuff I put only on that drive), or pay somebody to take the flash apart and move the data part to another flash.

What did work for the smaller files: Instead of trying to copy the whole drive, just copy a folder at a time. (Mine will keep power long enough to do this, yours sounds like it will not.) Then, as it is copying the power gets lost, and the "try again" pop up comes. My pro said best to wait until the second pop up comes, the scan again one, which means power is back. Then click scan only, then quickly click the try again while the getting is good.

This whole thing took about an hour for about 200 files, pretty much had to do all the clicks for each one, but I got them so good enough. But when I tried the same routine for picture files it mostly did not have enough time / power to get them. (This was on a different machine, the first success was on the IT shop's, maybe I will go back there.)

My last option was just that -- to take it apart and transfer the mem/chip w/ an identical flash drive etc.. but i gave up on it before i could try

that's a good idea though w/ that letting the OS wait till the drive comes back online.. well, knowledge for the next time... :)
