Power supply idea input please

Hey guys, I am thinking about upgrading my Power Supply to something with a little more grunt due to only having a Corsair GS800 (which does fine for now) powering 2 GTX480's. I have used a watt meter from the wall an I know if a PSU is pulling say for eg 600w from the wall, then your psu is outputting around 450w-500w.

I would like something with headroom, so I was wondering if you guys know of a good quality power supply for around £150 - £200 max, got to be modular and 1000w minimum

PS: when using Furmark and OCCT an the same time, I pulled 675w from the wall (i know Furmark is unrealistic when compared to games ect but I just want too upgrade for future use)

I have no idea of prices outside the USA.

Hey Ignatzatsonic, thanks for the input :), i found the PSU above on Ebuyer for around £183 for the xfx an £200 for the Seasonic, I have found the one below and was wondering what you think:

Get the XFX or the Seasonic. Both of those are made by Seasonic and should be nearly identical. Seasonic is the premier manufacturer of PSUs.

The OCZ is not made by OCZ. I'm not sure they actually make anything. They just tack on their brand name. OCZ usually uses a bunch of different companies to manufacture their PSUs---Channel Well, FSP, Sirtec, etc. You never know who built the thing, but none of those brands are in Seasonic's league.

You saying that, I build Pc's for people (mainly using Corsair PSU's) and in 6 months I have had two customers return there OCZ SSD's due to failing

I have heard nothing but good things with Seasonic and you have just confirmed it my friend, end of the month I shall be getting that bad boy.

Corsairs are pretty good too---some of the 500 to 800 watt models are made by Seasonic.

I'm not sure if Corsair has a full modular with at least 1000 watts. And I'm not sure if any of those 1000 watt plus models are Seasonic-built. Why take a chance?

I believe only they are fully modular, but on that note, my close friend recently bought a bundle (Motherboard, i7, 8GB kingston) and bought a 560ti and a Corsair hx850w, 2 nights ago, he smelt burning an his pc shut off, power supply had died an took his gpu too.

According to this, that Corsair 1200 is made by Flextronics.

Flextronics is a major subcontractor for all kinds of parts for the computer industry---keyboards, motherboards, whatever. They can make good stuff or bad stuff---whatever the subcontract specification calls for.

The Corsair HX850 is made by Channel Well.


Good move to stay with the XFX.
