    LCD Screen Whine

Okay, so my LCD monitor has been whining when I first turn it on, but once I get a display from my computer, the whining stops. This has been happening maybe about half a month to a year after I bought it back when I was in high school. The monitor is still good and still awesome, however I do want to know what the whine means. Does this mean it's time for me to look into a new monitor, or is this just something I can ignore? Honestly, the whine doesn't really bother me at all, so if it's not a sign that the monitor is dying or anything like that, then I'll just keep it. The monitor is a ViewSonic VX1932wm. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is when Google is your friend. Below is a link to the first thing I found with Google, which could be the info you're looking for.

Perhaps I should've specified. I've already googled a result, but I would like other people's opinions since this is a technology forum (geared specifically towards Windows 7).

This forum being geared specifically towards Windows 7 does not, in anyway, mean that we can help you any more than any other forum. Your issue is a hardware one that is not related to drivers or anything else related to software. We are, of course, more than happy to help as much as possible. Did you read over the article I linked to. Did anything in that article help you find the cause of your issue.

And yes, you should mention anything you have already done to troubleshoot your issue. Otherwise you can't hold it against us for telling you to do things you have already tried.

I'm a TV tech. The whine is likely the power supply. It may also have to do with the backlights, but again, causing the power supply to whine. To be honest, it may go on like it is and never be an issue. It may increase in time it whines, and eventually whine all the time. It may also be the beginning of the end. I'd continue using it until such time that it poops out, gets too irritating, or you desire a replacement anyway. A Guy

Thanks! Yeah, the monitor doesn't show any other signs of dying or anything like that, and all the sites that I've checked don't even state the whine as a symptom of a dying monitor. It really only whines when I turn it on and then it stops once I get a display (eg: my login screen or something). Well it is a relief since now that means that I'd be better off buying a hard drive and motherboard, for now at least.

It's not unusual for LCD TV's (basically a monitor with a tuner and more inputs/options) to whine a little until the backlights come on and the picture displays. A Guy
