Some folks never shut their computers off! In general the answer is yes.

The only issue you need to be concerned about (as far as running it for a long period of time) is overheating. But if your temps remain in the normal range then you do not need to be concerned about harming anything.

Hello cooldsam and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you can run the computer for 10 hours with no problems, chances are you can go for 12 with no issues. Unless you suddenly change your computing tasks by doing some heavy duty video editing, audio editing, spreadsheet work, etc all at the same time and all during those last two hours which could cause a serious heat spike.

Couple of suggestions. Make sure you keep the vents clean (no dust build up) for optimum air circulation. Elevate the laptop (I'm guessing you're talking about the Dell Latitude E6400, correct?) for better air flow around and underneath it. Perhaps invest in a small table-top fan to move the air more efficiently. Consider a cooling pad. And you can install some free software like Speccy to actively monitor temperatures for your hard drive, memory, graphics card, etc.

EDIT: Slow down on the keyboard, Bob! You always seem to beat me.

I know people who run their computer for 100 days without ever shutting it off. It is a waste of enegy, but should not harm the PC.

    Hi there
    safe for whom or what.

The computer should be fine but I'd suggest the HUMAN user should take an extended break every so often. .

just ensure that the airflow around the machine isn't too restricted as these CPU's can run quite hot.

    Cheers

    Welcome
I agree with the above. Extended use should not hurt the computer. It is suggested, however, that it be shut down, every few nights, to refresh the memory. It should be a cold boot and not a restart.

Heh. When I read the subject line I thought the OP was concerned about radiation or eye strain. :) Then again, being online 12 hours straight may not be safe. :)
