How to - Install WSS for Compal Notebooks

    SF

For all Compal notebook users that haven't been able to install the Wireless Select Switch (WSS)...rejoice! I take no credit for this fix so if you feel rep is necessary, rep MishaCze as the person who originally came up with the fix...

    Here's How

    1. Download both files here. Extract the WSS Driver first.
    2. Open up Device Manager and find the Unknown Device* that will be listed.
    3. Right Click on the device and choose "Update driver software"
    4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software" and hit the browse button to locate the folder of where you extracted the driver too.
    5. Hit Next and it should install the "Compal Embedded Control"
    6. Now extract the WSS Application
    7. Run setup.exe (in the extracted folder) as an administrator and the app will install
    8. Restart and look in the system tray to see your WSS icon back in action

*Also note that if you have multiple Unknown Devices (like me)
attempt this for each device until you find the one it installs for

Thanks for your post. It is so great. I had a new laptop for a couple of week and I have been frustrated with this problem. And now, thanks to you, it totally is gone away for ever!!! Wireless is enabled now on my lovely laptop. Thanks again!

    I can't use it

Notebook: RoverBook VH571 based on Compal C51.
    OS: Windows 7 x32.

In device manager there is two devices which is not installed properly. "PCI-modem" and "Unknown device". Based on Acpi code "unknown device" is SD card reader.

So. I can't find device which needs driver for acpi code *cpl0002 from WSS driver. Tried to install from inf-file but got message "this inf file doesn't support installing this way".

I installed WSS application and it can't work properly. WSS console outputs message "cannot find Wireless device". Gui application doesn't say anything. WiFi networks are unavailable.

    Help :)
