HP 4250 Printer not recognized via USB by Windows 7

I have recently took a HP 4250 off of a network that was using a static IP address. I put it in an office to be used by just one user. I found an older USB line to use on a new imaged Dell 390 Windows 7 32bit machine. When the USB is connected, I get a "USB Device Not Recognized." Under Devices and Printers, it shows up under Unspecified as an Unknown Device. When I network the exact same model via IP, it installs automatically. I am not sure why it is doing this. Is there any suggestions?

If i was installing my canon printer drivers (which never 'auto-detect' on usb or network) I always install/set up on manual install and actually point the driver to the usb port setting (in ports) if using a usb connection

Also try using a known working usb lead

The device shows up, but it shows as "Unidentified". It is the same printer it was connected to under an IP address which was replaced. The administrator wanted this employee to have it as her personal printer seeing she prints 3 times more than anyone else in the office. It was just odd it couldn't communicate with it.

Canon IP settings default to crazy range like 0.0.0.0 etc and nothing will connect

You have to input a new range actually thru the led menu on the printer to let other pc's see it/connect properly to network.

    Just a shot
