Opinions on buying this new rig

You have experienced problems with Intel in the past, but honestly the Intel processors outperform anything that AMD offers.

Also, I don't see any high performance disk drive in your box. Instead you have 2 eco friendly green drives. For the amount of cash you are looking to drop, I'd put in 1 SSD drive (like the second generation X-25M 160GB) and then 1 of the eco drives for storage.

Well, first how do you define a good system?? It appeared from the first post that you were attempting to simply build something "over the top".

You could look at this Maximum PC article on building 3 levels of "Dream Machine" for 2009. Of course, the only one you will find with an AMD processor is the lower end box...since the highest end performance these days is no question from Intel.

I don't know the purpose of your system, but I doubt that you'll see many gamers building systems that cost nearly $4.3kUS (at the current exchange rate) using an AMD CPU. You can buy a Core I7 920 for less than $300, and overclock it to well over 3GHz on air. (X58 mainboard are still a little expensive, but not in the context of a $4k system.)

Specific comments:

For the HD, I'd go with an SSD for the OS drive, and one 2TB drive for data. (I'd add an external HD for backup, rather than trusting to RAID1, if that's what you're considering.)

I haven't found information on the Asus VH232T monitor, but I recommend avoiding TN LCDs. (I'm using a Samsung 245BW, which is TN. It's bearable, but there are strong brightness and color shifts with viewing angle.)

For the PSU, I suggest checking the CrossfireX certified list at AMD:

AMD hasn't updated it for the 4890, but I believe that it doesn't use significantly more current than the 4870. (Both have two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors.) My PSU is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Crossfire. (I like it because it has a single 12V rail.) It worked fine with two 4870s, even though it's not certified for them.

For the graphics card, AMD may be introducing the HD58xx series within the next month or two. Supposedly they will have significantly better performance than the HD48xx series, as well as being DX11 cards (Windows 7 would be required to run DX11). You may regret getting a 4890, depending on the timing of the release.
