Is Intel® Core™ i5-650 Processor (4M Cache, 3.20 GHz) worth it?

I want to buy it but i'm not sure if it's worth 180$.
I have acutally an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 (4M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) i have it since 2009, so i'm going to sell it to a friend of mine for 100$.
Should i really change from core 2 duo to i5? i heard that there wasnt a big difference between the two.

If I read the spec correctly, the E6850 uses Socket 775. The I5-650, Socket 1156. You'd need to replace your motherboard to go from one to the other.

Socket 1156 is already obsolete. If you were getting a new motherboard, Socket 1155 is current. You could buy a new "Ivy Bridge" I5 for about $180.

I went from a Q6600 to a i5-3550, what a difference, in games everything is on max, video encoding went from 100% CPU usage to about 5%-8% CPU usage, so yeah massive benefits, but you will have to upgrade Motherboard, Ram to use that CPU (it is a 1155 Ivy Bridge).

I forgot to mention that i'm getting MSI P55A - GD65 will it support 2nd and 3rd generation i5?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I have 4gb ddr3 RAM, is that good? and i'm going to install 64 bit because currently i'm using just 32 bit which uses only 3.25 GO only.

No.

That's a socket 1156 motherboard and requires a socket 1156 CPU.

Second and third generation i5 processors are socket 1155.

Regarding RAM: 4 GB is fine for most purposes. Going to 8 will do you no good if you don't use all of the 4. I have 4 and rarely use over 2.5.

Just to be clear, for what? I'd guess CPU, MB, and RAM, at a minimum.
