    Which is better processor?

    hai friends,
I'm thinking of replacing my desktop processor.
I'm interested in Intel but my budget ain't for i5 or i7 processor.
I need suggestions.I'm interested in core 2 duo or core 2 core.Is there any better processor?
Is i3 in the above said processor's range?

The i3 is in the same range as the Core Duo, but reading between the lines you will need a new Motherboard (and also memory) as well for the i3.

i3 socket 1155, so any socket 1155 motherboard will do.

as mentioned above by GeneO the sandybridge or ivybridge cpu's require ddr 3 ram so replacing the cpu will require a motherboard and ram.

we need more information to assist you further.

    current motherboard model
    ram type

you can use cpu-z to aquire that information.
