    hard drive install

    Hello all,
Need some tips and tricks to install a new Seagate Sata hard drive.
This is a 1 TB drive and it will install internally.
I have a 500 gig Seagate Sata installed but I need more storage.
    I'm using Windows 7 RC1 X64
My plan is to make a restore point, shut the system down, let her sit for a few minutes and then install the new drive in the Sata 2 connection and then power up.
    Any tips/suggestion are welcome.

    Regards,
    Adrian

Install the drive on a spare SATA port and use it as the secondary drive. Keep it that way.
    OR
You can then image the primary to the secondary.
    OR
You can use File/Settings Transfer wizard to either drive, swap ports and re-install.

I would use the first option and change your user folders to the new drive.

Good evening Antman, I will go with your 1st suggestion and connect the new drive in the SATA 2 Port/Connection. I'll do this tomorrow in the AM.
Ill see if I can attach a photo of my MOBO.

Hello again, well you beat me to it, as I see the SATA connectors in red I'll use SATA 2 and make the cable connection. Add the power connection and then power up.
I'll get some shut eye and take on this project in the morning.
    Many thanks,
    Type at you tomorrow.

    Good morning Antman,
I went ahead and installed the Seagate 1 TB drive using SATA connect.
    ISSUE:
    1. Windows 7 RC1 X64 does not see drive in "My Computer" Window.
    2. Install was easy, BIOS sees the boot drive, sees the BDROM and sees the new SATA drive as drive 5
    3. Device manager sees both drives.
    STEPS TAKEN:
    • Physically reviewed connections. JOY
    • Rebooted, no issues.
    • rebooted and reviewed BIOS JOY
    • rebooted and using device manager uninstalled new drive JOY
    • rebooted and saw Windows 7 find the new SATA DRIVE and installed successfully.
    • My Computer window does not see new drive.
    • Rebooted using Windows Repair and no issues seen.
    • My Computer still does not see new drive.
    Sreen captures to follow.
