I agree with you regarding the techie, I only buy normal parts from that supplier. If I buy PC's then I go to another guy that is awesome. That is the problem here in SA, most of the ppl working at your supplier shops know less about a PC than the ppl buying. Not to mention the techies.
Well the problem is now solved, thanks all. Unfortunately those Chronos card are just not good enough, but it is all that was available.

The results are as such, even the Chronos PCI Sata card did not pick up on the motherboard. The PC techie reckons it cause I am running W7How he gets to that conclusion only he knows. Then he put in the adapter to change my Sata on my DVD Writer to IDE and that did also not pick up. So I asked if I can have a look...I took aout the adapter, changed the jumper to Slave, turned the IDE cable around (he had it the wrong way) and viola, it worked. So in the end, because I could only get a credit and not the cash, I bought a new 22x Lightscribe writer (ide) and my Sata to E-Sate is connceted to the motherboard directly.

Is your external HD listed in 'Safely Remove Hardware' when plugged in the eSATA port?
Dont think so. If I remember, it falls as one of the HDD,,,(like C:)
How are you removing it? If the external HD is not listed in your 'safely Remove Hardware' list, it might or might not be listed, then unplugging it is not a safe way to remove it.
I've been using the HotSwap program and it works fine.

In order to hot swap or plug and play an eSATA external hard drive you need a way to safely remove it, you can always 'yank' them but it's not recommended.
If your controller or BIOS still won't allow the "safely remove hardware" for the external hard drive then download the 'HotSwap' program from the above site. It works and looks like the MS 'safely remove hardware' program. It will clear the cache and check that no files or programs are using the drive, then give you a message that you 'Can now safely remove the hard drive'.
When I first started using it I couldn't get it to start automatically so I set it up as a task in Task Scheduler.
If you only use the external occasionally then create a short cut for it, if you're using it frequently the you can make it start at log on.
There is a great tut in the Windows Vista Forum that works the same in Windows 7 and will explain How to Create a Task in Vista Task Scheduler. You can create a task that will start the 'HotSwap' program at log on.
In step 6 enter 'HotSwap'
In step 11 select ‘Run with highest privileges’ which is the same as ‘Run as Administrator’
In step 13 choose "At Log on"

Good idea! If you are not going to be shutting one system down first when unplugging the drive especially when going direct to the board you would then want a program like this.

Have been using it for several months now and it's been reliable.
Just updated the BIOS on my laptop and now the eSATA external is listed in the MS 'Safely Remove Hardware' app. They're slowly catching up, as usual.
That's encouraging for Daran to hear!
That wouldn't do me much good with the two externals I bought being usb however. I simply pulled them out of the external casings for internal use here.
